Candidate of Art Studies, author of popular science books "Roksolana: Myths and Realities" (2015, 2nd ed. 2016), "Letters of Roksolana: Love and Diplomacy" (2017) Oleksandra Shutko, based on historical facts, archival materials, and research by Turkish, American, and Western European scholars, wrote a novel about Hatice Turhan, which consists of three parts.
The second volume is dedicated to the years of this sultana's reign in the Ottoman Empire. After the execution of her mother-in-law — the great valide Kösem — Hatice Turhan became the regent for her underage son — Sultan Mehmed IV and effectively ruled the Ottoman state.
Under the participation of Hatice Turhan, not only state appointments took place, but also audiences with the Sultan for ambassadors from Asia, Africa, and Europe. She paid great attention to Polish-Ukrainian relations. It was during her regency that Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky received Ottoman protection. However, soon he switched to the side of the Muscovites. But even this did not ruin his "friendship" with the Ottomans.
Khadija Turhan became the last representative of the "Women's Sultanate" in the Ottoman Empire, founded by Roxelana.
